Our Sherpa friend Ngawang has two children. Last year we started his daughter, 12 years old in school. This year we have committed to his son, who is 6. This is a long commitment, 12 years or more. Education is the key to getting out of the very challenging subsistence lifestyles the mountain people have. They really need people like us to help them. We are glad to be able to start both of his children. Ngawang works as both a guide and a carpenter. In both capacities he has to spend long periods of time away from him family working long hours. He is a very hard worker and supportive father. More support is always needed.
