For almost 30 years we have been supported on visits to Tanzania in many ways by Yusuf, and by guides and porters on Mt. Kilimanjaro climbs. In return we have helped Yusuf’s family and guides and porters with a variety of volunteer projects to improve their lives. Today we are sharing updates on scholarships for two of Yusuf’s children, Aziza and Hemed.
Hemed is amazingly in school in Finland. How people can make a jump like this is amazing. He has had to pass Finnish language tests to stay. This is enabling him to get a job to help support himself by being a driver there. He has to work very hard to succeed. Because of the cost he can not return for four years to his home. We are extremely proud of his intelligence and extreme hard work. He is completing his second year there.
In January while Jaima was in Tanzania to take a group to Kili, Aziza was home having finished high school. Her dreams to become a doctor were smashed when Tanzania closed applications for medical schools. India also closed applications to medical schools for Africans. In a crazy flurry in January, Jaima was able to help get Aziza to India where she is starting a program in pharmacology. It is a huge change for her in so many ways to be in school there. She is working hard to be successful there. I don’t know we can fully understand how dedicated she must be to succeed.
