Friends, I’m so excited to invite you to partner with the Child Sponsorship Program (CSP) as we continue our final few years of operations. You’ll recall the CSP was born in October 2009 through partnership with Shalom Orphanage Centre and Tumaini Junior School, with a focus on access to early English education for a cohort of Tanzanian students.

For nearly fourteen years, it’s been an immense joy to journey with 20+ hardworking students from Karatu, Tanzania, in their educational endeavors. JOS support has enabled students to complete primary and secondary school, vocational programs, college courses, transition to post-grad life and enter the workforce, and come late 2023, some will start university studies!

What a journey it has been thus far … and we’re not done yet!

In our final four years of support to our three youngest students – Shedrack, Naomi and Baraka – our goal is to raise $30,000.00 to cover advanced education support and one-time transition grants for program graduates as they navigate their futures. By 2027, eighteen years after its inception, our CSP will sunset upon completion of its ambitious goal.

SEPTEMBER 2023

The Final Act: A Fundraiser Celebration on Tuesday, September 26, at Littlefield in New York City *We raised $20,000.000 through this fundraising campaign!*

The Final Act featured the unveiling of our celebration video covering our nearly 14 years of operations, including student and program partner interviews! Attendees had the opportunity to virtually meet our students and purchase Tanzanian-made items like beadwork, clothing, coffee and more! And, our virtual silent auction raised more than $6,400.00!

Thanks to the great generosity of our donors, we raised more than $20,000.00!

JUNE 2024

The Full Circle: A Fundraiser Adventure June 8-22, 2024, in Tanzania

*7 spots remaining for climbers*

In February 2008 I traveled to Tanzania for the first time to climb Mount Kilimanjaro and before leaving Tanzania, I visited Shalom Orphanage Centre … and the rest is history! So, as we wind down our sponsorship program as our cohort of students is finishing up their educational journeys, befittingly, I’m thrilled to invite you to the Full Circle Adventure!

This special adventure features an 8-day climb up Africa’s tallest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro (19,340 feet/5,895 meters), and a 4-day safari across some of Northern Tanzania’s national parks, including: Arusha National Park (walking and in-vehicle), Tarangire National Park (in-vehicle); and Ngorongoro Crater and Conservation Area (in-vehicle). We’ll finish the trip with a final walking safari through Karatu where the CSP began in October 2009, visiting program partners Shalom Orphanage Centre, Tumaini Junior School, FAME Africa and more.

Longtime JOS partner and 24+ year veteran guide Yusuf will lead the climb and there are just 7 spots remaining for climbers to join me and several of our students! Email Elizabeth to secure your spot today with a non-refundable deposit of $1,000! Adventurers will have the unique opportunity to meet firsthand some of the remarkable students JOS has partnered with for more than a decade and visit other program partners who have contributed to JOS’ mission of partnering people and communities!
