Jessenia and Alonso are realizing their dream of being the first in their community to attend college.
A year of college in Léon is $350 per student. The Friends Project will provide them each with an annual scholarship of $300: Their families will pay $50.
This year, Lester, has a goal to join them. My goal is to provide them each with a scholarship for all five years to obtain their degree.
All three students walked three hours each way to attend high school every Saturday after working on their mountain farms all week. They do their homework by oil lamps or the light of a bare bulb powered by a solar panel. They will walk then take a bus for an hour each way, again on Saturdays, to pursue their dream.
